Advantages of Out-Patient Surgery
Thanks to huge advances made in medicin over the past years, it is now possible to do out-patient surgery in many cases unheard of before. Today’s patient wishes to be in contact with a specialised doctor whom he is familiar with and trusts. He wants to be examined, diagnosed, operated on (as an out-patient, if possible) and supervised after the operation by the same doctor. This is why the demand for out-patient surgery has been growing steadily with local doctors.
More and more often patients enqire about how to improve their quality of life through surgery rather than about life supporting/ saving surgery. And there are several advantages of out-patient surgery:
- Less waiting time for surgery
- Quicker recovery from the operation
- Shorter period of sick leave from work
- No hospitalization means less psychological stress, esp. for children and the elderly
Especially young children profit by out-patient surgery: their parents are close when they fall asleep before the pending operation and are present when they wake up again. This considerable reduction of their stress levels reduces the amount of anaesthetics required during surgery.
We operate at the Marien-Hospital, which combines the structural advantages of a clinic with out-patient surgery. We always try to provide appointments within a few weeks.
